How to Become Muslim

Becoming Muslim is simple, sincere, and profound. It requires no ritual, no clergy, and no fee — only an honest statement of belief from the heart.

The Shahada — Declaration of Faith

To become Muslim, say with sincere belief:

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ

"Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasul-Allah"

"I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

What Happens Next?

1

Perform Ghusl (full body purification bath) — a symbolic spiritual cleanse to mark your new beginning.

2

Learn the basics of prayer (Salah) — five daily prayers connect you directly to God. Resources at your local mosque or online.

3

Connect with a local mosque — every mosque welcomes new Muslims. They can guide you, answer questions, and introduce you to your new community.

4

Take your time — Islam is a journey, not an overnight transformation. Learn, grow, and ask questions at your own pace.

A Message to New Muslims

Islam does not ask you to be perfect — only sincere. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "All of the children of Adam make mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent."

Welcome to a community of 2 billion believers spanning every nation, language, and culture. You are not alone.
